History of QEC

This year QEC celebrates a very important milestone. QEC had its origins as the Victorian Baby Health Centre Association and opened its first Baby Health Centre in Richmond in 1917. In the 1950s VBHCA gained new premises in Carlton and a new name, the Queen Elizabeth Maternal and Child Health Centre. Over the following twenty years a further range of residential and day care services were provided to the families of Victoria, and the Centre moved from a voluntary organization to closer collaboration with the Department of Health and Maternal and Child Welfare.

The organization was renamed to Queen Elizabeth Centre in 1986 and in 1998 its operations moved to purpose built premises in Noble Park.

Ninety years on QEC is proud of its ongoing role in helping Victoria’s vulnerable families.
